This month saw the start of the “great siege” of the French-Spanish fleet, under the command of the Duke of Crillon, against the Rock (128, 130) with even more disastrous results (289, 20, 21, 31, 139, 290, 126). The siege was maintained until February, 1783, when it ended after the Treaty of Versailles was signed.

Except for the Spanish-English discord regarding Menorca and Gibraltar, the rest of the wars in the 18th century are totally disseminated in this cartographic collection and the little evidence it contains merely minimises a series of essential events in our historic past in which Spain’s integrity was seriously threatened once again.
